Setting Up the Ideal Nursery
Every expectant parent enjoys setting up the baby’s room. Most have no problem finding bedding, wall colors, and special accents to create a sweet retreat for their little one. The difficulty arrives in buying the nursery furniture. Many wonder what pieces are most needed.
For Baby
The crib is the centerpiece of the room. It needs to provide baby with a comfortable and safe place to sleep while allowing the parents a way to easily work with the child. One that is the proper height won’t cause a person to strain their back when placing the baby down for a nap. The mattress height should be adjustable for the different stages the child experiences. When they are an infant, a higher mattress makes life easier for the adults. Later on, when the child is mobile, a dropped mattress will keep them safe.
For Mom
The nursery needs a comfortable chair for cuddling, rocking, and feeding. A glider or rocking chair works nicely. It is a good idea to place a side table with a small lamp next to the chair. The table will keep everything the mother needs within reach, allowing her to care for the baby without upsetting the little one as they drift off to sleep. This is a good place to keep the phone, burping clothes, and wipes. The lamp should offer a soft glow without being harsh or bright. An ottoman can be a comforting addition. It gives the mom a way to elevate swollen and tired feet.
Organization
Organization is a must in a nursery. A dresser provides an excellent place to store clothing, blankets, and diapers. These items are kept out of sight and clean. Some dressers come in a hutch design with book shelves attached above the drawers. This is a piece that grows with the child. The shelves are perfect for displaying baby’s gifts. As they grow it can be used for their special treasures and eventually books. Toy bins are handy for baby care items and can be used later on for small toys.
Once the room is set up with functional furniture from retailers such as Baby Furniture Plus Kids, department stores, or furniture warehouses, the room is ready for baby’s arrival. With only a few key pieces this room will function perfectly for both the baby and parents.
